This rock carving lies on the moors 5 minutes (by car) from my house. It of one of many such carvings scattered all over these moors and were made by Neolithic and Early Bronze Age people between 3500 and 6000 years ago. No one knows the meaning of these carvings but they provide a unique personal link with our prehistoric ancestors. It is thought they may originally have been covered in ochre or dye. This one is about the size of a dinner plate.
