My grandson Mackenzie, who is 6, often comes on walks with me over the moors. But so far he hasn’t been up a mountain.
Beamsley Beacon isn’t exactly a mountain – it is only 1300 ft high or so but it is famous through the area as it can be seen for miles around – it is relatively easy and the views from the top are stunning.
So it was natural that we would have a hike up there one day, and as yesterday was full of promise for good weather it seemed ideal to do it.
So we parked in Addingham village and on a beautiful autumn morning we set off to climb ‘Mackenzies Mountain’ – as he calls it.
We had a superb day and we walked nearly 8 miles – and he loved it.
“The next one has to be higher” he says…
