This is Fleet Moss – part of the Roof of England, a wild bleak place even in Summer.
Our walk was to the little hamlet of Starbotton, many miles away, and the clouds looked low and heavy. Should we risk it, well our lift had departed and we had no choice. Not a good place to be in a rainstorm, there is little shelter and navigation (with map and compass) is difficult as there are few markers. Once the wall runs out there is nothing.
Fortunately the rains held off and we arrived safely several hours later, tired and hungry but grateful and dry.
