Sheltering from the torrential rain behind a dry stone wall with a good friend, and talking for ages about previous expeditions. Sharing a hot drink and a sandwich – literally miles from the nearest path, and watching a pair of red kites float beautifully across this exceptional landscape, diving and entwining together as they scavage for food.

I would rather be out here than in an air conditioned office in the middle of a city any day. This place is fused in my DNA.

Then the long walk back to the car in sopping wet clothes, wiping the wet hair from your eyes and the drips from your face.

A quick change into dry clothes in the back of the car, muddy boots in a carrier bag and cameras checked and lenses dried…and then a pint next to a roaring fire in the pub.
