This is the high path at the side of the moors. It is almost a demarcation line between the rough upper moorland and the lush fertile valley below. It runs for miles between old settlements and towns, and people have probably walked along it for thousands of years. This day we picked it up at Ilkley and walked about 5 or 6 miles towards Menston, and back again. The views are superb, with the village of Menston and the market town of Otley in the far distance. The day was perfectly silent, apart from the noise of two lapwings circling overhead, and we didn’t meet any other people all day.
